After finishing the FITD training scheme I was lucky enough to be offered a bespoke placement with PANDA, and was thrilled to discover I was going to be placed with the Manchester Craft and Design Centre. Since living in Manchester I have always loved visiting the centre, it is inspirational to see age old techniques being used to make beautifully contemporary, unique and affordable craftwork. On my first day of the placement I was introduced to the people who work behind the scenes and all of the craft-makers, looked round their studios (and somehow managed to restrain myself from buying everything), and learnt about the history of the building and centre. Whilst working with the centre I hope to assist with the exhibition process, from its conception to the exhibition takedown, and also help promote and market the centre by creating a blog, which will potentially feature interviews with the craft-workers, behind the scenes material to promote the exhibitions and information on the history of the building and the centre. I’m really excited to get started, brainstorm ideas with other members of the team and hopefully help promote the centre to a wider audience.
